En el año 2013 cuatro grupos se ubican por encima del promedio nacional (1,94%): Salud (4,44%), Educación (4,37%), Comunicaciones (2,75%) y Vivienda (2,74%). El resto de los grupos de gastos se ubicaron por debajo del promedio: Diversión (1,84%), Transporte (1,39%), Otros gastos (1,02%), Vestuario (0,94%) y Alimentos (0,86%).

La Junta Directiva del Banco de la República (JDBR) determina la política monetaria con el objetivo de mantener la tasa de inflación alrededor de su meta de largo plazo de 3% (con un margen admisible de desviación de +/- 1%). Esta meta se plantea sobre la inflación de precios al consumidor, que se mide estadísticamente como la variación anual del índice de precios al consumidor (IPC).
